Training for 2019 started a few days earlier in December 2018 .. I had a few days off and decided I would try out what I thought would work better for me as I pile on the miles towards the full marathon i'm aiming for with my new challenge .. To be honest I Dont really need to do much training for the half marathons I have planned .. I now find I can run them most days at a steady pace of around 2hrs without trying .. lucky me !
My original plan was to run 5 miles walk 1 mile and so on and so on .. giving me reasonable breaks in between running sections which I did try and it did help me to slow down my pace sufficiently but I was still hurting after the 14th mile .. so much so I gave in that first attempt at around 15 miles .. with a lot of walking in that last section of the run.
So day two's trial I went with a 3/1 formula .. I ran the first mile then walked a quarter of a mile .. followed by running the next three quarters of a mile and so on and so on. This formula seems to work fine and I managed to keep to an almost even pace although it was the day after running the 15 trial yesterday .. tired legs and feet hindered me a little but the overall effect of the 3/1 was satisfying and really helpful, so the next set of training runs will be at this formula and lets just see what happens as I progress and up the miles. I feel comfortable with the plan so far and I will chronicle all my training runs in this part of the website to keep an close eye on the progression.
